Mary appears to have been the youngest child of William Clark and Elizabeth (Elgin) Compton.Family tradition has given her father's birth year as 1723.This would have made him 60 when Mary was born, certainly not impossible, but it does suggest he may have been born later than that.William was dead by September 1809 with the family tradition that he died in 1808.If he was born in 1723 he would have been 85 or 86 when he died.Again certainly possible but again it does leave open the possibility he may have been born later than 1723.
