Mary Common, Beauty Queen

I am trying to discover what relationship my grandmother had to Mary Common. She kept a newspaper clipping because she wasa relation but no on ein the family knows who she was.

The newspaper and date are unknown but on the back is an section of an article about Russia joining USA for the partition of Paelstine into seperate Jewish and Arab countries. This should give us a year fro the article.

There is a photo of Mary pitching hay, and the caption reads:-
'Miss Mary Common, aged 19, Butchercote, St Boswells, who has been chosen to represent the Borders in the 500 "Miss Britain" beauty contset, puts in some work on her fathers farm.'

Can anybody furnish me with some clues as to who this woman is?
