Joseph was born 1856 in Oldbury, Worcestershire. He moved to Sheffield with his brother John (born 1852).

Their parents were John Commander and Jemima Banks, married in Dudley 1836. John was born in 1816 in Rowington, son of William Commander and Comfort Plant who were married in 1813 in Stratford on Avon.

Jemima Banks was born in Ludlow in 1814. Comfort Plant was born in Brierley 1792.

Where William fits in is a mystery. There are family trees for Rowington Commanders, but he doesn't fit. Rowington is not far from Bishops Tachbrook, where Commanders seem to have originated back as far as 1369.

Joseph was married to Ann E in Sheffield in 1880, but she died in 1900. No known children.

No other known descendents of Joseph - was Irene the only surviving child?

Let me know your postal address and I'll send you the family tree.

Philip Commander
