Yes, if he is the James Commander I think you are referring to, he was son of Ann Commander. James Commander was born about 1811, but I do not think it was at Clifford Chambers. If I remember correctly someone, whose name I cannot remember now did a search of the Parish Registers at Clifford Chambers and came up with 'nil pointe'. Lewis Commander would know for sure.
James Commander, I believe was coach man at Aston Hall, which is now become part of Birmingham. Lewis Commander and I have not so far been able to find a marriage for Ann at this time, but will keep searching for you. My great-grandfather, George Commander was a police officer in Aston Village about 1861. Aston hall is owned, if I remember correctly, by the Holt family, and is run by the Birmingham City Corporation. I am sure that if you write to them, and I will try and find an address for you, then they will contact the archives at the hall and give you some more information. I know they do have council website.
It may be that there might be a painting of James or something like that, as the Holt family were into giving likenesses to their long time employees. There is a really good oil portrait of the housekeeper in the hall. I did not find one of James, but I only had a certain amount of time when I visited it.
In the new year I am off to the Birmingham Police Museum to find out more about George, in between a visit to the Tram Museum at Crich, with my frend John, who happens to be a tram nut. I like them too. Anyway, I'll call in at the hall at the same time. It may pay you to email lewiscommander@talk21.com. He, I believe, has compiled a tree of Ann Commander's descendants. Don't send Lewis a large email he only has a text phone. He is not into television and I still believe he is not connected to the internet, except where he works. I have the tree somewhere myself and will hunt it out, input it and send it to you, when I have finished organisation the policemen's ball.
