Hi Mary,
My ggrandfather and ggmother were both from the Elizabeth City, Pasquotank area, Joshua and Elizbeth (Liza?)Commander. Their children were Mattie Lee (my grandmother, married Jordan Phelps), Joshua, Morgan, and Julian Harris.
Unfortunately I don't have any dates right now, as I have only begun to search, but I will soon be going to the EC area, so if you let me know your lines (I feel certain that there is a connection, not many Commanders in that specific area), I will keep my eyes open as I am doing my research, and ask relatives if they may have info for you.
