James M Comley, born in New Lexington, Ohio 3-6-1832. Admitted to pratice law in 1859. Entered the Civil War as a private, then 1st Lieutenant of his company, the Lt Colonel of the 43 Ohio Volunteers and then major of the 23rd Ohio. Oct 1865 became editor of the Ohio State Journal. Appointed minister to Hawiian Islands by Pres. Hayes remaining until 1882. Returned to Ohio and purchased the "Toledo Commerical" . He died 1887
