Hello Bill,

In the autumn of 2004, I visited the Wellsburg Cemetery where Richard Comfort (1745-1824) is interred. No veteran's marker was present at his gravesite.

Is there some controversy whether or not Richard actually served in the New York militia during the war? I have not been able to obtain any of his war records nor pension records, if they exist. However, I may not be searching in the right place(s).

I am the 5th great-grandson of Richard and Charity (surname unknown) Comfort, descended from their daughter Hannah COMFORT (1782-1857).

Do you posses copies of Richard's war records or can you direct me to a reliable source? Will share what I have.

Sincerely,
Paul E. Newell
