Hello Ann,Happy to hear from you re Comerford/Galligan Ancestry.
I haven't been able to find out much about the family in Ireland, the only document I was able to get was my great uncle's birth certificate (James Comerford b-November 2,place of birth Drumbrath, it shows Thomas Cummerford as Father living in Drumbrade, birth registerd in the District of Ballinanagh, in the Union of Cavan in the County of Cavan.Under the signature qualification and residence of informant it has Thomas Comerford Father (different spelling).
I have great uncles one named Columba Bridget Mary, another called Thomas Patrick, my Grandfather's name was Benignus Mary Comerford, great aunts 2 called Mary (as one died at 4 weeks old), another called Anne, another called Maryanne, anotherCatherine Mary.
Kathleen and James Alfred seems to be a name that runs through the family.
Thomas and Mary also lived in Drumbee before they came to Australia in 1865, and on arrival they started a Dairy in Townsville which had only been founded in 1864. The area has now been developed into a seafront park and is known as Comerford's Lagoon.
Mary Comerford (nee Galligan) died in 1927 here in Townsville and is buried in the West End Cemetery along with her husband Thomas and her daughter Catherine. There is a headstone - I can send you a photoif you are interested.
I would love to find out more about the Irish side of the family but have not had much success.
Regards
Maureen.
