I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
Note 4 - Microfilms of parish church rcds are kept by the National Library of Ireland.
For James Comerford B 1865 +/- 1 yr, somewhere in Ireland, with a father forenamed Th(omas), I found 0 rcds.
For Th(omas) Comerford M 1862 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, I found 2 rcds: 1860 Kilkenny, and 1861 Kilkenny.
For Mary Galligan M ditto, I found 8 rcds; none matched those for Thomas. This infers the rcds for Thomas are likely both false positives.
For Th(omas) Comerford B 1838 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland with a father forenamed James, I found 4 rcds: 1835 Kilkenny, 1840 Dublin, and 2-1841 Kilkenny. There is only a SLIM chance that one of these may be the right one.
For James Comerford M 1834 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, I found 7 rcds: 1831 Dublin, 2-1832 Kilkenny, 1836 Kilkenny, 1837 Tipperary, 1837 Kilkenny, and 1837 Limerick.
For Cat(herine) Reynolds M ditto, I found 21 rcds, but none matched those for James.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
