1900 Census for Baker County, Florida. Marriage records of Baker
County, Florida. Baker County Florida Cemetery Records. Confederate
Pension file of James Combs. James Combs served in the Confederate
Army as a Private in Company D., 1st. florida Cavalry. He enlisted 16
October 1861 and was paroled on 20 may 1865 in Madison, Florida. After
the death of his 1st wife he married 2nd to Piety Ann Dortch Chastain.
After 1900 he moved south of Lake City, Florida (Columbia Co.) where he
lived until he died. He died after suffering a stroke. He and Piety
Dortch Chastain had six children: Almer, Rowe, Gladys, Claude, Annie,
and Felton (a girl). Piety Dortch Chastain is buried by James at Bethel
Methodist Church Cemetery. .
