Below is all info I have gathered on Oliver Coller & Oliver Coller, Jr. Don't know if they were related to my Collers (Stephen, John & John, Jr., all of Connecticut): OLIVER COLLAR 1758 - Oliver Coller m. Mary Wallin, 30 Oct 1758, New Hartford, 1st Cong. Ch. (Early Conn. Marriages, Bailey) Per Rootsweb info, Mary Wallin was the daughter of William Wallin, who was born about 1695 in Smithfield, Providence Co., RI. Oliver and Mary Wallin/Walling married in New Hartford, but 6 years later, in 1764, they were apparently living in Kent (then Dutchess, now Putnam Co.), NY per the Rev War Pension application of son Oliver, Jr., in which he states he was born in Kent, NY in 1764, but was a resident of New Hartford, Ct at the time he enlisted ("the year Fairfield was burned by the invaders," i.e., July 1779). Oliver, Sr. had moved back to New Hartford by 1769, when he was "of New Hartford" and was given 10 acres of land by William Walling, Jr., (also of New Hartford). Oliver was enumerated there on 1790 & 1800 census. Between 1800-1810, both Oliver and Oliver, Jr. moved to Fairfield, Franklin Co., Vt (near Canadian border) and were both enumerated there on the 1810 census. Oliver, Jr. appeared on later censuses. Gravestone inscriptions in Pond Cemetary (Some Early Records of Fairfield, Vermont, Ancestry.com database) give the following info: Oliver Collar, d. 17 Feb 1814, ae 75 yrs. ...(b. ~1739) Mercy Collar, wife of Oliver, d. 19 Jan 1821, ae 74 yrs ...(prob wrong; could not be b. ~1747, if married in 1758, or this is a 2nd wife) Anna Collar, wife of Oliver [Jr.], d. 25 Dec 1841, in her 81st yr (b.~1761) Oliver Collar, d. 6 July 1849, ae 84 yrs ....(b.~ 1765; jives w. Rev War pension) Mary Collar, widow of Oliver [Jr.?], d. 8 Apr 1852, ae 52 yrs...(b.~1800; maybe 2nd wife of Oliver, Jr. or a different Oliver?) Talcott (JP), Jussy(?) Talcott, Samuel Merry, Cornelius Merry Land Description: 41 acres & 3 rods, of lot originally laid out to Jobannah Smith, of 45 acres and 3 rods, bounded on: south by George Sexton west & south (east?) by highway north by Sarah Woodruff, being part of the land laid out to said Jobannah Smith Note 1: Jobannah Smith was son of Joseph Smith & Lydia ___ (bap 1685, d 1771). He m1 Sarah (Morgan) Graves in 1714, wid of Thomas Graves and dau of Thomas Morgan & Rachel (Merry?). He m2 Mary Flowers in 1719, dau Lamrock Flowers & Lydia Smith. Jobannah and 2nd wife Mary were the parents of Anne Smith, wife of Noah Fisher (Families of Early Hartford). Note 2: Jobannah's 1st wife's mother was Rachel Merry, sister of Cornelius Merry. ("Parsons Families of the Conn Valley," NEHGR, Vol 148, p. 235 [1994]). Also identified as Rachel Merry in Families of Early Hartford (Jacobus). Interestingly, Thomas & Rachel (Merry) Morgan's dau, also named Rachel, m Abel Collyer (1704-1746), son of Joseph Collyer & Sarah Forbes. Abel Collyer (1704-1746) & Rachel Morgan had three sons who lived to adulthood: Thomas (bap 1730-1763) who married Ruth Felt; Abel (bap 1734), prob. d. young per Families of Early Hartford; and Joseph (bap 1737), who married Jemima Richards. Joseph Collyer & Sarah Forbes were also parents of Daniel Collyer, husband of Thankful. A Thankful Collyer sold New Hartford land to Eliphalet Ensign in 1761. She could have been the wife of Daniel or his daughter, also named Thankful. Note 4: Samuel Merry (b. ~1750, d. 1827, Herkimer Co., NY) m Hannah Merrill (b. 1747, Htfd, d.1814, Litchfield, Herkimer Co, NY). Per Rootsweb, was grandson of Cornelius Merry, Jr. & Bethia Williams, & parents were John Merry & Dinah Flowers (dau Lamrock Flower & Anna Watson). Moved with family of 10 children to Herkimer Co., NY in 1789. (History of Trumbull & Mahoning Co., H.Z. Williams & Bro., Cleveland, 1882, p. 377, via Heritage Quest) Note 2: Cornelius Merry Sr. was an Irishman. He married Rachel Ball/Ballard in 1663 in Northampton, Mass (New England Marriages Prior to 1700, Torrey; Northampton VRs on NEHGS site) Note 3: Cornelius Merry, Jr.'s wife was Bethia Williams, dau of John Williams & Bethia (Parsons) Maskell. If Bethia was not a Williams, it is difficult to explain why she and Cornelius joined Ebenezer Williams in the 1734 sale of land in Simsbury which belonged to the deceased Francis Williams. ("Parsons Families of the Conn Valley," NEHGR, Vol 148, p. 235 [1994]).
