Looking through my genealogy file, I have found information which might be of use to you. Thomas Colyer b.1857 was living with his wife Julia, children Charles and Allen in Sutton at Hone, near Dartford, Kent in 1881. All were born at Sutton at Hone. They also appear in the 1901 Census, living at Bexley in Kent with 7 children. A Thomas Colyer married Sarah Hook 3 August 1823 at Downe in Kent. Possibly the grandparents of Thomas b.1857. I found a descendant of this Kent family, Allen Roy Colyer, living in Reading in May 2003; we concluded after some correspondance that we are almost certainly related, though we don't know how. The Colyer family was originally based in Surrey, which is close to Kent.
