The 1850 Greene Co., AL Census contains enumerations for 14 COLVIN households. All are apparently the sons and grandsons of ????? COLVIN amd wife, Martha. She was b. in New Hampshire, circa 1762. Her husband was b. in South Carolina, as were all of their sons. One of the sons was Charnel (or Charner) COLVIN, b. in SC, circa 1803. I do not know the identity of his 1st wife, with whom he had at least six children, but his 2nd wife was Levina MOORE, the widow of John RASBERRY. This couple had two children. I am working on the line of Charnel J(ames?) COLVIN, a son from the 1st marriage, b. in SC, circa 1824/1825. He married Elizabeth M. WOLSTENHOLME, a daughter of Thomas and Sarah (MERIWETHER) WOLSTENHOLME, in 1846. They were enumerated with their children in Greene Co., AL, in 1850, and in Lamar Co., AL, in 1880. Is this family group included in "Colvin and Allied Families" (El Dorasdo, AR, 1965)? Is anyone out there familiar enough with the South Carolina COLVINS to identify the pioneer COLVIN in Greene Co., Alabama?
