bonnie, thanks for the reply. john's father abijah colvin, i found the info in a book published in 1998, by the magoffin county (ky) historical society. the book, called "the legends of blue and gray", states that a joshua colvin born 1848, married, 18 march 1874, to josephine rice born 1854. the son of allen colvin born 1809 married, 14 august 1840 to eveline mahan, born 1825. allen was the son of john colvin who married sarah fairchild curtiss. the book said that joshua's grand father was john colvin, and his paternal great grandfather was abijah colvin. since all the rest of the info i knew to be right i assumed that abijah was john's father. let me know what you think.
