Joseph Barrow Colville was born in West Feleciana Parish, LA in 1814He was the son of Robert Craig Colville and Elizabeth Ratliff.Joseph Barrow Colville had a son Jehu or John Colville who had a daughter named Elizabeth.Robert Craig Colville died ca1818.I have been unable to trace back any further.Perhaps they came from Tenn. or Alabama.Do any of these names or places connect?Those who came to Texas with Joseph Barrow was a brother Cyrus, a half brother James Boyd (his mother Elizabeth Colville Hamilton widow of David Hamilton to to whom she was married in 1840) and his nephew Matthew Joiner, who lived with his grandmother, Elizabeth.Robert Joiner was 33 years of age when he joined Co. H 13th (Burnette's) Texas Calvery Regiment in 1862.The 1860 census records has him listed as owning 25 slaves.Joseph Barrow was one of the early settlers of Toledo Bend, Texas.He bought a plantation of 500 acres from A. M. Bevil in ca1844.Joseph Barrow had a daughter (Emaline md. Jesse G. Leach) by his marriage to Amelia Emaline Wright.Some of the Leach family owned part of the land Joseph B. Colville purchased in the days of the Republic of Texas at Toledo Bend.My Grandmother married Joseph Hamilton Leach.My grandmother's mother was Elizabeth Colville, daughter of Jehu (John?) P. Colville. The Leache's were from Bibb and Perry Co. Alabama, and Union Co. South Carolina before coming to Texas.
