Hello,

I have a question if I may? The Gilbert de Colville? Would he be the one who accompanied William the Conqueror when he came over to England, and he and his descendants acquired various possessions in that country? The first notice after that is of Philip de Colville in the reign of King Stephen - Source - "The Scottish Nation or the Surnames, Families, Literature, Honours, and Biographical History of the People of Scotland" by William Anderson, Vol 1, 1866 -

In this book, Gilbert is described as - "Gilbert de Colavilla de Colville" - Since I didn't take Latin, I am assuming that the "colavilla" is Colville? Have you see it presented this way?

Thank you -

Sincerely,

MaryJean Childress Voegtlin
