John Colt (b.1781) & Margaret Inglis (b.1783) did have a son William, but he's not the William who died in NY 1831. John Colt had 2 brothers, Isaac (1772-1845) & Asahel (b. 1776). Those 2 brothers moved from Sussex Co., NJ to Norfolk County, Canada abt. 1799. They then moved to New York. I don't know what happened to Asahel, but Isaac was in Niagara Co., NY where he died in 1845. So, William Colt b. 1803 is most likely the son of either Asahel or Isaac. Isaac Colt married Nancy or Anna Norris 12 May 1794 in Sussex Co., NJ.
After the death of John Colt 1820-1824 in NJ, Margaret Inglis married Terrance Smith. The family then moved to Georgia. Margaret Inglis is the daughter of William Inglis & Margaret King.
