2 Johns & Madison Collier 19th C MA>OH>??

Along with many Collier cousins, I am preparing the first comprehensive genealogy of the "Colliers of Massachusetts," being the descendants of Thomas and Susannah ( --- ) Collier, who arrived in Hingham,. Mass. in 1635. We are now in the first draft stage, but have many lost lines or individuals that we hope to recover before publication.

In the "Ohio Line" - my own - we have several unanswered questions remaining:

       1) The first of the Ohio line was my G-G-Grandfather, John Collier (b., probably Boston, Aug. 24, 1802 - d., possibly Ohio or Michigan, after 1860), who m. (1) Mary Samson in Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Mass. on Dec. 5, 1822. (Mary's family background is unknown.) After spending at least a few years in Vermont, John and Mary moved to Ohio (probably Portage or Geauga County) not later than January, 1833. The family was probably living in Auburn, Geauga County, in 1840, and were certainly in nearby Mantua, Portage County, in 1850. (John Collier was of the 7th American Generation - Thomas of Hingham being the first.)

Mary Samson Collier (b. Mass. February 10, 1804) died in Mantua on April 30, 1850, and is buried there in the Pioneer Cemetery.

John m. (2) Nov. 21, 1851, in Burton, Geauga County, Sarah A. Dayton (b. about 1809, Ohio), probably a widow. In the 1860 Federal Census the couple was still living in Burton, in a household which included George R. Dayton, then aged 22. George was likely a son of Sarah's by her first marriage. He is listed as the owner of the property in 1860.

I have not found a later listing for John or Sarah Dayton Collier, or for George R. Dayton. Can anyone provide anything later than 1860?

Children of John and Mary Samson Collier:

.....               Lyman Collier; b: October 03, 1823 in Vermont; d: July 26, 1907 in Pompeii, Gratiot County, Michigan       ..........       +Julia Melinda Giles       b: Abt. 1828 in Ohio; d: Aft. 1870 in Michigan ??;        m: September 13, 1848 in Bainbridge, Geauga County, Ohio ??

.....               Norman Collier; b: January 08, 1843 in Ohio; d: January 21, 1871 in Hiram, Portage County, Ohio

       2) Of the children, I have nothing other than date of birth for John, b. Feb. 2, 1836. I would be interested in learning whether he died at an early age, or any other information.

I also am seeking any later information on Adaline and Washington Allen. I have nothing after marrieage record. There are later records of Washington Allen in Ohio Censuses, but I cannot find the correct individual, if there.

We have family records which indicate that Madison, b. Jan. 13, 1830 (probably in Vermont or Ohio) d. June 6, 1900, but I do not have a location, or any other information on him.

I would be happy to have any additional information on any of this "Ohio" line, and will be happy to share my extensive files. On the overall "Colliers of Massachusetts" database, to date we have over 4,700 known descendants and spouses of Thomas and Susannah Collier, with about 380 being of the Collier or Collyer surname.
