Nat' Archives Budget Cut -- PLEASE READ!
To all who might be interested:
THIS IS NOT AN AD and there is NOTHING FOR SALE in this message. We are about to LOSE UNRESTRICTED ACCESS to a valuable source of TAXPAYER-SUPPORTED historical and genealogical information -- the US National Archives and Records Administration (USNARA) facility in Washington, D.C., and its branch offices around the USA!Whether beneficial access contines as is, or important historical data continues to be placed on archive, depends upon each of our individual actions, at this time.
Several House of Representative bills in the current term combined with the Bush Administration's current FY2007 budget proposal have resulted in an approximate $22 million shortfall in the annual budget of the National Archives. This will have serious repercussions for anyone who might be planning a visit to see our nation's most historical documents on display and, moreover, for those of us planning to do any research based upon holdings at the USNARA.This will also seriously affect staffing and hours of operation at other USNARA branch offices around the country!
The US Senate has not yet signed off on their versions of some of these actions, so it is still possible that much of this budgetary shortfall can be overcome. Each of us needs to contact his/her senator so that complete awareness of this situation may be brought about and so that the funds might be restored. Please read the blog at the following link, first, and do as your heart leads you to do:
