There was a Cornelius Collins, Revolutionary War soldier (Lieutenant) who died in 1791 in Savannah, GA. His brother John Collins (also a Revolutionary War soldier) applied for letters of administration. In the probate paper John is described as "John Collins of Columbia County." My speculation is that this John Collins appears in the 1820 census of Columbia County in District 4. (This John was born before 1775 based on that census.) and that, perhaps, he is the father of Albert H. Collins (b. ca. 1805, GA) and William A. L. Collins (b. ca. 1803, GA) who appear in district 4 in the 1830 Census. My query is how might this John Collins connect to the above children of William Collins. Could the brothers Cornelius and John be brothers to William? ============== In the 1920's there was descendant of W. A. L. Collins who was researching both Cornelius who died in 1791 and Cornelius of Columbia County -- who interestingly was born about 1791. I ran across some of his notes in the Georgia State Archives -- but they did not provide much other information. ================ Also, would someone have a Collins brother or cousin who could be encouraged to participate in the Collins DNA surname project? I would be happy to sponsor the cost of the test for the volunteer. The results could shed light on how this Collins family connects to other Collins family lines. This past year I connected with a newfound branch of my family, and that information helped track my line back to Thomas G. Collins (b. 1790, Effingham County, GA). His mother Bridget was a widow of a Revolutionary War soldier, and it could be Cornelius of Savannah. Notify Administrator about this message?
