I am looking for information on any of the above mentioned Collins'. Based on a letter to my gggrandmother, Amelia Wooley Rhodes from her cousin A.L. Crawford, John, Peter, Cornelius, Francis and Mary are Amelia's half aunts and Uncles. I have learned that their mother Martha McGehee Atwood first married James Atwood Jr. b. England and had the following children:Martha (Patsy), Elizabeth, James, William, Anne, and Eleanor Atwood. All but Eleanor are born in VA. Since Eleanor is born in Columbia, GA it is probable that Martha was pregnant when James died in Prince Edward, VA in 1783. After James' death Martha McGehee Atwood marries William Collins and moves to Columbia Co., GA and had John, Peter, Cornelius, Francis and Mary Collins. The letter is posted from Rousseau, GA which was in McDuffee Co. According to the letter dated 1835 Uncle John Collins lives within four miles of A.L. Crawford in Rousseau and had at least one daughter. Uncle Peter's wife has died and his son has gone to live with the deceesed wife's sister Catherine. Uncle Cornelius is a Baptist preacher. Aunt Fannie (Francis m. Robert Martin) has several children, one of which is married at this time. Aunt Polly (Mary m. Hendley Boswell) has moved to Crawford Co., GA to live with her oldest daughter. The Crawfords, A.L., A.J. Albert and thier mother are related through Martha (Patsy's) sister Eleanor who married John Crawford. Martha (Patsy) Atwood was b. abt. 1780 VA. If you recognize any of the Collins, Crawfords, Atwood or Rhodes names and can provide additional info beyond what is listed here please contact me. I am happy to share what info I have.
