Hi Jools, if you could prepare a list of those you have in the Ipswich area sometime then it would help me also to unravel yours from mine ! or, who knows, they may even be the same line - stranger things have happened !I did find a COLLINGS that married a COLLINGS.
As far as I know at the mo, my branch popped in and out of Suffolk from Norfolk and took side trips to - London, North England, central England, Canada, the USA, and Australia. I know of other branches that seem to be unrelated to my branch in outlying villages and Ipswich itself. I shall be happy to collect them for you too.
I had three in the area in the 1840's I am sure of - siblings EMILY, CHARLES & JOHN, they must have had bicycles because they were in - Playford, Ipswich, Gt Bealings, and Rushmere, to name a few, from them I have had contacts all over the world with their descentants.
The name seems to waver between COLLINS and COLLINGS, I think that depended on who recorded it at the time. I discount neither.
The earliest COLLINS I found in Ipswch was 1200 !
LIN
