Hi Jackie,
My maiden name is Lynn Alison Collinge (3/3/57), I was born in Australia. My father John Henry Collinge (birth 1920 Nov) was born in the Moss Side area of Manchester. His father was Frank Collinge and his mother Mary Alice Montgomery. My fathers syblings were Frank, Herbert, Donald, Irene, Phyllis and Betty, they are all deceased now. I know very little of my fathers family, as he died when I was 7 years old. I am a novice at this, as I am sure you can tell. I would be grateful if you could give me any clues on the Collinge family.

One thing I read years ago was that the names Collinge, Collings, Collins probably originated from a village in Yorkshire called Cowling, pronounced Colling. They actually have a Collinge Road there. I also read that Collinge may have been a Norman name. On the other hand I also heard the name came from the Saxon settlement of Coll. Its all very confusing.

Regards
Lynn Pickles
