My father's name was George Colling. His family originated in Germany. I only know that his parents died fairly young. I believe it was when he was in the army. I know that his grandparents owned a hat shop somewhere in Germany. He had one brother, Pete who died before my father married (cancer, I believe). My father moved to Brooklyn, New York where he met my mother, Patricia Decker. He fought in World War II, received a purple heart after a land mine blew up killing at least 2 of his buddies; he was able to get his injured buddies to safety at the risk of stepping on other landmines in the area. He died of cancer at a young age (I was 10 years old at the time). He and my mother moved to San Diego California and had 8 children. My mother will be 81 this year, so my dad would have been 83 or 84 this last January. The oldest child is now 52 and had a twin at birth who died 10 days later. Other siblings are 52 51, 50 (myself), 49, 46, 43, and another set of twins who are almost 41. After his death, our family remained in San Diego and my mom Patricia Colling raised the eight of us alone. The twins were 3 years old, and the oldest child was 12 at this time. I think my father was 38 when he died of cancer. I am not sure if my father's parents had brothers or sisters. I was too young to know that, and since they both died (I believe in their late 30's, early 40's)I have never seen or heard of any other living relatives of his.
