Hi Colleen,

I am a Colligan through my mother's side.

The Colligans you are seeking were based in Lanark from around 1800.

John Gardiner, from Lanark married Helen Gardiner, (note not Ellen) in the early part of the 1830's.

Children they had, in order. John 1835, Margaret 1839, Nancy 1841 and Jess 1843. I think tere was another child between John and Margaret. Possibly Stillborn.

John went on to live in Holytown. He married Christina Storrie 1868.

They had 4 boys. John 1868, Robert 1870, Thomas 1872, and George (Kerr) Colligan 1874.

George married and moved to Beith, Ayrshire around 1893.

Your branch of the Colligans, (and there are many of them) settled mainly in West Calder, Lanark, Beith and West Calder.

My line of the Colligans estblished in Scotland from Donegal around 1860.

Your line moved to lanark from Donegal at an earlier date.

I hope this is useful.
