Trudi,
I sent a direct reply to your email to me of March 28 - not sure whether you received it or not.I located some material on John Nelson Collier and his parents while they remained in Mass., including surname of mother, John N. and brother Oscar's birth records, and family location on Martha's Vineyard in 1865 - the last record I find in Mass.
I located brother Oscar G. Collier in Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses, and can send that information to you if desired. John and Oscar's mother, Albina, must have remarried a Mr. Cram at some point after death of her first husband. She, described as widowed, b. Mass., but erroneously "Mother-in-law" of Oscar, was living with he and his family on April 15, 1910 (date of census).
I "think" I can identify the David Collier of Pawtucket, RI, b. ca. 1795, who was the father of the Rev. John Collier, John Nelson and Oscar G.'s father. I'll send you what I have on this individual, if you wish. My identification is certainly not proven, and I have no idea of David's lineage, as yet.

My email of March 28:
I have access to NEHGS online records and Ancestry.com, so was able to quickly pull together a little about your John N. Collier, a brother named Oscar, and their parents. I don't yet find the family in Massachusetts after 1865, as I didn't see them in a quick census search, nor any deaths of parents or the brother Oscar.(Do you have any idea when the family left Mass.?) Note that there are some minor inconsistencies in places of birth for the parents of John N. Collier.
I'll try again tomorrow evening to see if I can find anything on John N.'s grandfather, named David, who was in Pawtucket, RI about 1832. He "could" be the David Collier, age 75 at the 1870 census of Pawtucket. That man was a machinist, with $1,200 in real estate and $300 in cash, b.RI. His wife was Hannah, age 74, also b. RI. This is just a possibility, of course.I haven't had a chance to look for online Pawtucket VRs.
I copy in below some notes I gathered in the last hour.

The parents had been married in Barnstable on March 25, 1857. John A. Collier was 25, a “clergyman,” born in Pawtucket about 1832, based on age in 1857. His father’s name was David. The wife’s surname is hard to decipher on the page, but first name and middle initial was Albina A. The spelling of the surname appears to be “Cammiet,” but further checking is needed. She was 21, so born about 1836 in Barnstable. Her father’s name was John. This was the first marriage for both. (Checking the VRs index for Albina, I see her surname indexed as “Cammet.”

The information on this page is difficult to make out, but Oscar seems to have been born June 12, 1858. Parents listed as John Collier and Albina (“Cammett’). John is listed as a “M. E. Minister,” born Pawtucket, and Albina is said to have been born in Cotuit Point, which is another location within the town of Barnstable, Cape Cod.

In 1865 the family was in East Tisbury, on Martha’s Vineyard:

To date I haven’t located anything more than the name of Rev. Collier’s father. I also don’t quickly find them in censuses after the above 1865 one from Martha’s Vineyard
