Hi Ollie --
From Ancestry.com:
Virginia Marriages, 1851-1929
Name of Spouse 1: Ada P. Clarke
Name of Spouse 2: R. R. Collier
Marriage Date: 07 Sep 1899
Original Source Page: 134
Book: 1
Place: Old Rappahannoch and Essex Counties
Ada and R. R. Collier are NOWHERE to be found in the USA on the 1900 Census, by any imaginable spelling of the surname.I checked the Clarkes, too, just in case.In 1910, Occupacia, Essex Co., VA, "Ada Collier, daughter," 34, Widow, is living in the household of "Ira E. Clarke" and his wife, "Sarah W.," along with Ada's son, Emory, 9 years old.The 1910 Census also states that Emory's father, who would be R. R. Collier, was born in VA.
On the 1880 Census, Tappahannock (sic - this is CORRECT) Dist., Essex Co., VA, John M. and Ellen Collier have in their household several children, of which one is Roland, 7 (b. ca. 1872/3).This could POSSIBLY be the "R. R." to whom Ada Clarke first married.THERE IS NO Dan/Daniel/Dan* IN THIS HOUSEHOLD.There is also no child in this household whose MIDDLE name could possibly be this, either.
This means there is a STRONG possibility that your "Dan S. Collier" is NOT the son of John M. and Ellen (Allen) Collier! The other alternative would be that your Dan was b. after 1880, in which case, he would be much younger than Ada, though possibly a child of John and Ellen. An EXTENSIVE, ALL STATE search of the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Censuses does NOT support in ANY WAY that your "Dan S." is a son of John M. and Ellen (Allen) Collier.
With all of this under consideration, it is ALMOST doubtful that Ada Clarke's two Collier husbands were related to each other, though I suspect that they somehow were. So, I'm awfully sorry -- the info I presented here just raises a LOT more questions. But, maybe this helps you in some way.
Cheers,
Michael D. Collier <--- NO relation
