DNA testing

Hi Bryant --
As far as I know, I'm pretty sure that noone, at least of those involved with this GenForum or the Collyer and Colyer GenForums, is doing any DNA testing.Although there are gaps here and there, there appear to be fairly good records of most of the four or five main Collier/Collyer/Colyer families here in America -- this may be why none of us has undertaken the DNA project.
However, only ONE of the Collier families (Robert Collier of VA) can actually be traced to its immigrant's ancestry in Europe (England/France).I feel very strongly that NONE of the main Collier/Collyer/Colyer families here in USA/Canada are in any way related, their respective ancestries springing from separate ancestors who simply affected the surname "Collier/etc." from their occupations as coal miners in various areas of England and Wales. The exception, of course, is probably the afore-mentioned Colliers of VA, who gained their surname from a village in France.
However, a DNA project would be worthwhile for two reasons.First, it would help answer questions for those of us who have been unsuccessful in tracing back from our RECENT ancestry.Second, it would help those of us who are unable to find our exact European heritage to establish contact with pertinent DNA-related families overseas. In both cases, such a project would function as a strong and reliable "direction-pointer" for further research and hard-copy documentation.
In spite of this age of modern technology, I am still too remote and do not have the wherewithall to lead such a project. However, I am certain that both I and my cousin, Wade Collier, would be willing to participate in such a project.
