Ancestry.com Family Trees/RootsWeb Freepages/LDS FamilySearch -- put 'em in a bag, shake 'em up and ... well, you know ...
It is absolutely correct to take any undocumented information with a LARGE grain of salt.Naturally, both the active links I gave you contained unsubstantiated information, meant only as a possible guideline or starting place.
However, I have a Census subscription and was looking at the digital imagery of the actual census pages as I transcribed them for you last night. If you are interested in these, I can go back and get the actual USNA Microfilm Roll and Image numbers for you for easier reference -- it would have been smarter of me to have done that in the first place :-) .
As for Ancestry.com's "Colorado Marriages 1859-1900," here is their description of the database to help you make your own decision as to its accuracy:
"This database is a collection of marriage records from three counties in Colorado, since this update adds Arapahoe and Boulder counties to records from Mesa County, Colorado. Taken from microfilm copies of original county documents, each record provides spouses' names, marriage date, and county of residence. The database lists the names of more than 37,000 men and women."
And:
"Arapahoe County was created in 1861. This database includes marriages for the county from 16 October 1859 through 1900."
And, further source information:
"Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, comp. Colorado Marriages, 1859-1900 [database online]. Provo, UT: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2000. Original data: Mesa County, Colorado Marriages 1883-1900. County court records located at Grand Junction, Colorado or Family History Library microfilm #1035611. Marriages of Arapahoe County, Colorado, 1859-1901: Including Territory that became Adams, Denver and other counties. Colorado: Colorado Genealogical Society, 1986. Boulder County, Colorado Marriages, 27 June 1864-1900. County court records located at Boulder, Colorado. Records extracted at county court house."
I NEVER trust FamilySearch listings unless they contain a "Source Documentation" reference to a microfilm roll that is OBVIOUSLY and easily identified as imagery of official vital records (I follow the "hotlinks" to find out what the actual database title is). Many of their microfilm rolls are NOT VRs but are, instead, merely imagery of somebody's typed or handwritten "wish list" or LDS Temple post mortem baptisms of those whose names are on these "wish lists."
You are performing a GREAT service and it is very good to see that you are on the lookout for possible "stumbling blocks."Keep up the good work!
