Helen,
In regards to the Refo you mentioned, I have found the Collier daughter you mentioned.Problem is, it is listed as Kefo. This family is shown on the Monroe County census(I am sure they were in Ft. Myers which was part of that county then) for 1880. Along with Dr. Collier and Sarah, his wife, there is a Virginia Kefo and two daughters. She is widowed.
Have you seen other records mentioning that surname?Have you any tips on how to determine whether than seeing the census for oneself? Hey, I have tried that in the past, and it is still a toss-up.
I have so much help from Carolyn Ford of the Lee County Genealogical Society. She found Sarah Collier's obit in the Ft. Myers Press for 1886.
Thought I would mention the Kefo/Refo thing, and perhaps you knew more about it.
