Hi! Tell me about the Haines/Haynes connection you are trying to make with Ruth and Ann, please.

I have an Elva HAINES Smelser, daughter of Catharine Brown and William Harrison Smelser, granddaughter of Mary Collet and Aaron Brown (of Greene Co, Tn.), ggranddaughter of Jacob Collet and Nancy Britton.

I have found no Haines connection but with that middle name given a little girl there HAS to be one! There are Colletts from Virginia who went to Ohio and I suspect we are related to them...same tendency to Biblical names......Daniel Collett (RWS) married a Haines girl. And somewhere I read that Colletts, Brittons and Haines traveled together although I cannot tell you exactly where i read that, so take that for what it's worth! <G>

I also believe they were likely Quakers before the war.

AND.....when the CW broke out, my William Smelser took his wife CAtherine (great granddaughter of Jacob Collet of Green Co.) to Wilmington, Ohio, where my great grandmother Elva HAINES Collet was born. A great aunt of mine told a cousin that "we had family there." But she did not say who that was.

So.....that is my input and I, too, am searching for the Haines connection...have you found anything since you posted? Love to hear from you.
