You just filled a big hole in my Graves family data. I am still looking for more on the James C. Graves family.

Your Great-grandmother was named after James C’s baby sister, Elizabeth A. “Betty” Graves, born 1832 in Harris County, GA. She was born in 1872 at Brenham, Washington County, TX. Died in 1920/22 at Magnum, Greer County, OK.

Our Twice Great–grandfather, James C. Graves, was married three times.
First wife:
MELINDA L. WILLIS, my twice great–grandmother, m: 7 Feb 1850 at Harris County, GA.
Children:
1.       James C. Graves II b: 1850 Troup County, GA
2.       Alphouse/Alexander Graves b: 5 May 1853 at Birmingham, AL
3.       Cornelia J. Graves b: 1855 in Alabama (my Great–Grandmother)
4.       William B. Graves b: Oct 1857 in Alabama
5.       Charles M. Graves b: 1859 in Alabama
6.       Robert E. “Bob” Graves b: Jul 1860 in Macon County, AL
Second wife:
CARRIE FRAZIER, Have not found a marriage record, could have been married in one of the Indian Nations. In the 1870 Census of Washington County, TX she is listed as M.L. Graves a hired housekeeper. She was a full blood Indian.
Children:
7.       Catherine (Kate) Frazier Graves b: 28 Aug 1864 in Alabama
8.       Samuel Y. Graves b: bt 1867 & 1869 Alabama
9.       Elizabeth “Bettie” Graves b: 1872 in Brenham, Washington County, TX
Third wife
CLARA P. (-?-) WAGES b: Feb 1857 or Nov 1859 in Alabama. She was first married to (?) Wages before 1881. They had a daughter, Lillia (Felia) Wages, born Nov 1881 in TX.

Married J. C. Graves on 26 Jan 1883 in Kosse, Limestone County, TX. Name on marriage license is Carrie Wages.
Children:
10.       Grover Cleveland Graves b: 28 Sep 1884 Kosse, Limestone County, TX
11.       Oscar Graves b. Aug 1888 Limestone County, TX
12.       Berty R. Graves b: Apr 1880 Limestone County, TX
13.       Carl Graves b: Dec 1892 Limestone County, TX
14.       Lille D. Graves b: May 1896 Limestone County, TX

James C. hired Carrie to help with the children and house work when Melinda was pregnant with Robert E. and she had developed complications. We don’t know for sure if Melinda died or left. No record of her death and no grave marker has been found at this time.

Since the family loved her so much she stayed on and took Melinda’s place. Not sure if she took Melinda’s name in Alabama but in Texas she did to pass as a white. At this time I have not found a grave for her in Washington or Limestone counties.

Would you have any data on Carrie’s ancestors?
