Hi Richard,George Washington Collamore left Mass.for Kansas in 1856,most probably as an abolitionist, and I suspect with the intention of ensuring Kansas entered the Union as a Free State.
He was Adjutant General on the staff of the Governor of Kansas (I can find no record of "Field Service" in the Union Army),and with his political connections,no doubt met up with Abraham Lincoln.
If you go to web site < www.ukans.edu > and there make a Collamore search, you`ll get a brief account of his time in Kansas, along with a photo of the General.Regards Ron
