Oddly enough, there was an Asaph Moore COLEGATE (1763-1856)whose family is related to some of my relatives. He was from Balto Co, MD, served in the Rev War, moved to Huntingdon Co, PA in the late 1780s, and from there to northern WV in the middle 1810s. He married Rosanna __ (PRICE?), c1759-bef 1840. Ancestry is given for him in Barnes' BALTIMORE CO FAMILIES 1659-1759 but I don't know how accurate it is. I saw his name written out in full in only one place, a petition at the VA Archives (Monongalia Co file) from abt 1820.

Without the notes in front of me I don't remember if it is a petition for establishment of a new county or the one in which they requested that the state capitol be moved to some spot inland so the British could not attack it by sea if there was another war (I think they had Clarksburg in mind, and it's too bad this fell through).

The combination of names is odd and it would seem there must be some connection. Did these MOORE and COLEGATE in Patrick Co come from the Baltimore area?
