Spencer Coleman son of John & Isabel Coleman
Sheri Coleman Nicol has written that Spencer Coleman 1752-1834,who mar.Lucy White in 1773, was the son of John & Isabel Coleman, and that John was the son of Robert Spilsbe Coleman. We know that Robert had a son John, because he is listed in a merchants account book, in 1751, whichmentions a John & a Thomas as sons of Robt. Sp. Coleman. What I don't understand is why because Thomas is not mentioned in his father's will, he is considered dead before it was written, John is also not mentioned in the will, but Ms. Nicol does not consider him dead. [The will can be found in "Southern Sojourners" by R.C. Neal, and has a lot of info on the Coleman family line.] Does anyone have any information on John & Isabel Coleman or have a record that shows his parents. I find it hard to believe that if he was Robert's son why he was not in this very precise will. I don't really doubt that a John is Spencer's father as Ms. Nicol found him in the counties that Spencer said he was living when he filed his Rev. War Pension. I just would like to see some proof as to his father.
Has anyone found any information on John Coleman son of Daniel Coleman 1662-1722?I am wondering if this could be the John Coleman that Sheri Coleman Nicol found living in Stafford County, Virginia instead of Robert Spilsbe Coleman’s John that she thought to be the father of Spencer????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jan
