My Virginian ancestors were mostly in Henrico, Chesterfield, James City, Charles City, Norfolk, Essex, King & Queen, & New Kent counties - along the eastern half of the state. One of my mother's grandfathers was born in Chesterfield and moved to Richmond where he met his New England wife. He came from a family that had lived in that area since Henrico county was first established. Her other grandfather was born in Norfolk and went to the NE part of W. Va. where he met his wife in Ohio who was 3rd generation out of New England and living in a community of people from the same area. This grandfather came from a latecoming immigrant (1750) who married into established area families. While I know that some of my ancestors were prosperous when they arrived, I don't know that all were.A tutor, a doctor, a planter, a sailor... some may well have been indentured servants when they came.I haven't found the date of immigration for all of my ancestors as yet.
I will definitely get and read the book you reccommend.
