Judge James P. Coleman of Mississippi
I'm hoping a close relative of the Judge can help me to contact the person in possession of the late Judge's genealogical records.
James P. Coleman, in 1974, while a Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th Judicial Circuit in Ackerman, MS wrote several letters to a THOMPSON cousin of mine.
In 1998 I rcvd.copies of these letters from Judge Coleman to my relative in Walhalla, SC, ... Mrs. Louis THOMPSON Keys.Judge Coleman was inquiring about the genealogy of William THOMPSON whom HE believed was a grandfather of his. This William Thompson may be the same person as MY GGGgrandfather. My THOMPSON cousins & I have been having one heck of a time researching this particular ancestor due to the popularily of the name William Thompson in the Old Pendleton District/ Upcounty of SC in the late 1700's and early 1800's.
I believe this same Judge Coleman was a former Governor of Mississippi 1956-60.
Any information that may help lead me to uncover my elusive William would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
