William chr. 11 Feb 1792, Coventry, Warwick, Eng
Looking for a possible first wife for William Cole (possible middle name Thomas as he's listed as Thomas on the ships passenger list when he came to America) chr. 11 Feb 1792, Coventry, Warwickshire, Eng. His parents were Richard Cole and Sarah Jordan both of Coventry.
William has always been assigned Sarah Gosling/Gorlin as the mother of all his children. The only marriage I can find is for William Cole m. Sarah Gosling 30 May 1830, St Luke, Old Charlton, Kent, Eng. The place is close to where William was living when his first 3 children were born all before 1830. If this is the correct marriage then it looks as if William Cole had a previous wife also named Sarah when Richard Thomas William Cole b. 1826, Mary (?Bostock) Cole b. 1828 and William Henry Cole b. 1829 were born. Is Bostock a clue to the first mother's maiden name? Richard Thomas William carries he paternal grandfather's first name as his first name, could Thomas be his maternal grandfather's first name? William is obviously after his own father.
It's possible that the children were so small when their mother died that they would have always thought of Sarah Gosling as their real mother including the first mother's marriage date of 1825.
Also and 1808 birth date for Sarah Gosling puts her at only 17 if she was suppose to be married in 1825. The 1830 marriage date makes a more reasonable age to get married at 22.
If anyone has proof that a Sarah Gosling married William Cole in 1825 I'd like to know what it is. And The History of Racine and Kenosha Counties is NOT proof. That would have been information supplied by the family.
Any help is appreciated.
