Clayton....the trees at Ancestry have varying info for Thomas, with no sources. Some say he was b 1600, some 1610 in either Grantchester, Cambridge, England or Navestock, Essex, England.

LDS says son John, b 1643 was born Grantchester so maybe an assumption was made for father Thomas. The trees all have this John b Salem, Essex, MA however.

There was a Thomas Cole on the Mary & John, 24 Mar 1634 but according to "The Great Migration" source at NEHGS no Thomas Cole was found in Salem until 1642. Men did often come alone to New England for a while and then went back to wind up affairs and gather the family & return tho.

NEHGS Register 1864 Vol 18 p 81...a little article entitled "Genealogical Waifs" by Joseph L Chester of London, regarding parish registers:

"Navestock Co, Essex 1639 Dec 15 baptized: John, grandchild of Thomas Coale, at 3 years of age, w came out of New England" I suspect this might be where the birthplace of Navestock for Thomas comes from.

If Thomas was b 1610 I don't think he could have had a grandchild at age 29 ? so maybe 1600 is the better date for him.

Anyway, I couldn't find any other info about Thomas....wish I could have helped more ! Vicky
