I have the following text in my manuscript (update ofE.B. Cole's The Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth) for the family ofBENJAMIN COLE5 (Andrew4, Benjamin3, Hugh2, James1), who married Rebecca Barton:
"This family is listed incorrectly by E.B. Cole, pp. 79–80, and in Belden Ray Cole’s book, Twigs of James Cole–Plymouth, p. 9. Both authors apparently confused Benjamin5 with another Benjamin, the son of Benjamin and Excuse (Fones) Cole of North Kingston, Washington Co., RI. That Benjamin was b. in Nov 1751 and m. Martha Wightman in 1783. Their first child, Valentine Wightman Cole, is listed incorrectly as the son of Benjamin and Rebecca (Barton) Cole by both E.B. Cole and Belden Ray Cole. These North Kingston Coles are descended from John and Susanna (Hutchinson) Cole: Valentine5, Benjamin4, Benjamin3, William2, John1."
E.B. Cole lists Valentine Wightman Cole, again incorrectly, in the 6th generation, p. 122, with this info:
"b. Warren, R,I., 1784; d. Dec. 17, 1875; m. (1) Hannah Dewey; m. (2) Wealthy Cory."
His list of Valentine's 11 children includes fourth child Betsey Cole, b. 1819; m. Reuben Hart. No further info.
