Leticia Martinez in the Mexican Consulate Office in El Paso has alerted me to the political family of Juaquin Coldwell in Cancun, Quintana Roo state, Mexico. Addy Cecilia Juaquin Coldwell is Senator from that state to the National Congress. She recently changed political parties from the former ruling party PRI, which ran Mexico for 75 years, to PAN the Party of the current President Vicente Fox. It appears from some sources that she was denied the PRI nomination for Governor of Quintana Roo state and bolted to PAN. Pedro Juaquin Coldwell also from the same family is a former Mayor of Cancun, and Governor of Quintana Roo. He appears to have held national office as Minister of Tourism. In 2004 he formed Grupo Enlace with other PRI luminaries,to set out a political position within the PRI, perhaps in anticipation of the upcoming national presidential elections. I understand that the family name is Juaquin Coldwell. In the Spanish tradition the first name is the father's family name and the second or last name is the mother's family name. In abbreviated communications the Senadora is referred to as Addy Juaquin, not Coldwell. I am intrigued to learn where this distinguished family of Coldwells is related to the rest of us.
