Hi Nancy,
I have just finished reading an interesting book about Denby & the surrounding area, this may be of some interest to you;
This is taken from a grave at upper Denby near Penistone
William Couldwell died 30th July 1783.
His tombstone had a most interesting inscription, described as a clothier, the following is almost complete save for words which are illegible due to cracks and weathering:
Frail is the vestment once I made,
Death hath -?- this human thread
My frame I thought to firm so -?-,
Was but a clothing for the soul,
The cloth and thread I wove and spun,
By time and weather were undone,
The stronger texture of my frame,
And now the fates that spun the chain,
Have cut the thread of life again.
The above was taken from the book “Denby & District” written by Chris Heath
After reading your last reply I sent a copy of it by email to some more Coldwell researchers. Contained in one of the replies was scanned copy of the parish register of the marriage of my 4 x great granfather, when I checked his signature it appeared to be written as Couldwell (the person who sent it to me told me it was exactly the same on his will).
Could you please tell me how you found Johannes Couldwell's marriage to Elizabetha Broadhead & if you have any other evidence which would enable us to trace any previous relatives.
Thanks very much for sharing your research with me, I now have the descendants of Josephus(1708),Edmund (1702)& Alice (1705)from the dates mentioned up to the present date.
Accordint to my family tree program you are the wife of my 7th cousin once removed.
Happy New Year
Stuart Coldwell
