Sidney:

After l50 years of speculation William Haslet Jones (in NEHGR 141 [1987]pp. 115-127, "Early Settlers of Hampton, New Hampshire From Ormesby, St. Margaret, Norfolk"), finally came up with a sensible identification for the wife of Edward (1) Colcord. I see no reason to doubt it, though the evidence is circumstantial and probably always will be. It certainly was not Ann Page, the improbable Ann Wadd (clearly a mistranscription by Hotten)and there is no reason to think it was Ann Nudd.

As for Edweard's ancestry there is no reason to think he was not from Devonshire: he went there in 1656 and the great proponderence of parish entries for Colchord (the Parish clerk's spelling - Colcord never appears in any parish records I have seen)is in Devon. So far he has not been found in the IGI - but I haven't looked in a couple of years.

Tim Colcord
