Barbara,

I found a "theory" explaining the Colclough/Webster/Parr connection in the book: "Thomas Faulconer, Descendants, and Related Tidewater Virginia Families", by James G. Faulconer & Tommy West, chapter 22, "The Youngs". It is fairly complicated, but I will try to summarize.

Phillip Parr, Sr. of Lancaster Co, VA had 3 children, 2 by his first wife (or wives), (1) a daughter who married John Webster, and a son (2) Phillip "Jr." who married Judith Allaman. By his last (also unknown) wife, Phillip Sr. had a daughter Mary, bc. 1668. Mary Parr married (1) George Colclough, (2) Richard Carter & (3) Henry Smith.

Mary Parr was a half-sister to the wife of John Webster and to Phillip Parr Jr. Mary Parr Colclough Carter Smith was the mother of Elizabeth Colclough, as well as Richard, Mary, Elizabeth and Katherine Carter. There were no known children from her marriage to Henry Smith. Her husband Henry Smith administered her estate following her death in 1701 (Essex Co. D&W book 10, p. 15)

If you can find the Faulconer book in a local (or lending) library it has numerous references which "fill in the blanks". I must say, however, that while the hypothesis offered is THE MOST PLAUSIBLE of the many possibilities, it is still not proven beyond any shadow of a doubt (and I doubt any hypothesis ever will be at this time.)

If you cannot locate the book and/or wish to contact me for more information, please do so at robjol@covad.net

Best regards,
Rob
