Brian, I found the following entry in "Will Abstracts of Stafford County, Virginia, 1748-1767." [All grammatical and spelling errors preserve.]Fairfax. In Obdedience Order Worshipful Court of Stafford County for appraise Estate of RACHEL COLCLOUGH We the Subscribers sworn before one of his Majesties Justices of Peace for this County do appraise.. (items listed and valued) .. Total 60 pounds. SANFORD REMY, JOHN SOMERS, WILLIAM DULING." I am descended from William Duling of Fairfax County, and John Summers was his neighbor; their grandchildren married. Since Fairfax County was already set up by then, I wonder why this record is in Stafford. I know that my Duling ancestors had migrated north to Fairfax from the Northern Neck counties in the 1740s, so perhaps they were tied by kinship or friendship with your ancestor, Rachel Colclough. Were your ancestors of Irish extraction? The Dulins (also spelled Doolin, Dooling, Duling, Dulan, etc.) most probably were Irish Catholic.
THanks for any insights you could share.
