I am trying to make a positive connection to Colonel George Colbert (1744-1839) of Chickasaw Nation fame. I have a copy of " A Genealogical Study of the Colbert Family of Chickasaw Indian Fame- The First Three Generations" by Don Martini, which states that "There is a remote possibility" that he (George Colbert, Dec. 9,1809 - Oct. 9, 1879, who is buried in the McCondy Cemetery in Chickasaw County, Mississippi) is a son of Colonel George Colbert as listed in the 1818 census. When I was young , my father had told me that there was an Indian princess in the family tree.I never paid it much mind until I began doing genealogical research. I can't seem to find anything definite. I have a copy of my great grandmother's death certificate- Dora Elizabeth (Colbert) Henley, born 3/10/1849 and died 12/06/1915, Clay County, Mississippi - which states her father as being George Colbert and her mother as Melinda Lanford. Hoping someone can shed some light on the situation. Thanking you in advance....
