Anyone searching for Colbert's from Ireland?

What a load of nonsense Melissa's query generated. Colbert is a very localised surname in the Cork, Waterford, Tipperary border area and of course has spread to other centres. It has been round since c. 1200 beginning as Accolobert: this is off the top of my head, check McLysaght's 'Surnames/families of Ireland' for precise dates and spelling of the original name.
The name is also found in Northern Ireland, although usually spelled Culbert. It may have a different origin.

Wading through all the American entries is hard work when you are looking for Irish origins.

He emigrated to Australia in 1867 and was the son of Edward/Edmund & Catherine/Kate McAuliffe.
