Hello, I was of a Colbert Family. My father lived in Oklahoma City Ok most of his life. He was Chickasaw Indian Bloodline. My mother was half Cherokee. She told me the name was French. My dad told me it was Scottish/Chickasaw. So where do we start? I have traced our ancestry back to James Logan Colbert and that sounds a little Irish... However, the Native Americans run in our family. The first governor of Oklahoma was Winchester Daugherty Colbert and he was the first mixed-blood Native American Chickasaw who ran Oklahoma when it was called "Indian Territory". Also, his father Benjamin Franklin Colbert owned a large cotton plantation in Bryan County Ok which had the largest house in the area called "Riverside". It was the first stop on the first leg of the "Butterfield Stagecoach" back before it was called Wells Fargo or owned by American Express/Pony Express the start of our US postal system. BF Colbert also, started the Red River Bridge Company that built the first bridge that crossed the Red River over to Texas by Denison, before that they owned the Colberts Ferry.
