I was wondering if your Grandmother Gladys had any brothers who had sons (that is, a direct male Colbert line tracing all the way to James Colbert). If so, have they had DNA testing to prove they are descendants of James Colbert?

I have been researching James Colbert of the Chickasaws for about 20 years. (See my articles on James in North Carolina Journal of Genealogy in 1992 entitled "James Logan Colbert: The Man and the Myth).

Since the articles were written I've made a few corrections re: mistakes I made, but essentially the information.

If you are indeed a descendant of James Colbert, then one of the Colbert male descendants from your Grandmother's brothers should have the same DNA as my family.
