Hi Vikki, Washington Democrat 8 April 1940 page 1 Harry Colbert Taken by Death Harry B. Colbert, 56, former B & O machinist in Washington, died this morning at 5 o'clock at the family home in Indianapolis, according to word received by relatives. Death of Mr. Colbert, a brother-in-law of Herb Loyd of this city, was attributed to a complication of ailments. He had been in ailing health for the past two years. he formerly lived a Seventh and Center streets before going to Indianapolis. Surviving are the widow, Mary E. Alford Colbert, and six children, Mrs. Lela Marie Auberry of Odon, Mrs. Susie Webber of Harrison township, Beulah Dearburg, Cecil and Obedie Colbert and Geraldine Clark, all of Indianapolsi. The deceased was born in Washington and was a son of the late Tod and Mary E.(Smith) Colbert. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. I believe that the "Tod" above is a misprint as Mary E. Smith married Toliver P. Colbert in Daviess County 16 March 1875. Also, Toliver P. Colbert's obit. Washington Democrat 16 April 1914 page 8 Tolliver P. Colbert, a machinist employed at the B & O Southerwestern shops until about a year ago, died this morning about 9 o'clock at his home near Hudsonville. Mr. Colbert is well remembered by many shop men, he having been employed as a macinist there since 1898. He had been in failing health for about three years and about a year ago he spent some time in the sanitarium at Olney, IL. The doctors there gave him no encouragement and told relatives that he could not recover. Mr. Colbert was about fifty-four years old. He married Mary Smith, daughter of John E. Smith, and, and three children were born to the union, one a daughter, dying in 1901. Two sons and his widow survive him. The sons are Frank and Harry, and they live on their father's farm near Hudsonville. One brother, George Colbert, of Missouri, also survives him. He was a member of the machinists' union and befoe his death he confesssed faith in the Methodist religion. It was his request that his body be buried at Ebenezer cemetery. The funeral arrangements have not been made. Goodspeed's history also lists Harry as a child of Toliver P. Colbert and his second wife, Winny Gilley. Toliver P. Colbert was the son of Jesse B. Colbert and his second wife, Winnie Gilley. Jesse B. Colbert was the son of Toliver Colbert and Sarah Miller. Toliver was the son of Jesse Colbert and Frances as you already know. Several years ago, a descendant of Asel Colbert (son of Jesse and Harriet Colbert) brought some pictures by that are believed to be Jesse and Frances Colbert. Have you ever seen a picture of either Jesse or Frances? I could e-mail a copy to you if you would like to see these. Libby Notify Administrator about this message?
